I was diagnosed with germ cell dysgerminoma and choriocarcinoma on October 2021 after a misdiagnosis. My ovary had become a 20cm tumour which had ruptured and torsed, I went in for emergency surgery on November 1st and was in chemo therapy by December.
My chemo consisted of 4 rounds- each round made up of 5 days of IV chemo infusion and 2 weeks rest between each round. Throughout the whole experience my family were all in the uk unable to visit me in hospital due to covid restrictions. I have since been involved with campaigns such as CamillaandMarc “Ovaries Talk About Them” release and an upcoming awareness campaign with Black Pepper
Ovarian cancer Australia the charity this event is raising money for were a godsend through out my treatment and continue to support me in my journey after.
The funds will go towards providing women diagnosed with ovarian cancer with resources-including access to therapy, psychologists, their own assigned nurse OC nurse and to donate to research.
Ovarian Cancer is a type of cancer that should be survivable- unfortunately due to the symptoms being unknown, generic and just generally ignored this isn’t the norm. It is due to this that OC is referred to as a silent killer. It is not silent!
